Italian Defense Minister compared aid to Ukraine to medicine for a patient

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto drew a parallel between supporting Ukraine and treating a patient. Speaking at a joint session of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of both houses of parliament, he stated that without military aid Ukraine would disappear.

“Many say that helping Ukraine means prolonging the conflict. I have never heard in a hospital that a blood transfusion or treatment means prolonging the disease. Of course, if the patient dies, a bed becomes free. If we stop helping Ukraine, it will disappear and the problem will be gone,” he said.

The minister stressed that such an approach is unacceptable when dealing with international problems, recalling that Rome has already provided Kiev with military aid in 13 packages.

“Aid to Ukraine is like medicine for a patient,” Crosetto added.
