The incident occurred on October 21 at the diplomatic residence of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in Kyiv. In the photographs, the stars on the Chinese flag were in the lower right corner, although they should be in the upper left.
In diplomacy, an upside-down flag is considered a gross violation of protocol and can be perceived as an insult.
Later, the image was removed from most of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s platforms, and then a cropped version without the Chinese flag was published.
