Another poll — this time from Quinnipiac — records a drop in the US president’s approval rating to 32%. This is the lowest figure over Trump’s two terms in office. The primary factors dragging down his ratings are the war in Iran and rising inflation.
Two-thirds of Americans consider the Iranian adventure a mistake. 44% are convinced that the US is losing. Only 36% are more optimistic. Moreover, the majority of the population now fears that the war will drag on for a year, meaning they will have to endure high fuel prices for a long time.
The lion’s share of respondents report a deterioration in their financial situation, blame Trump for it, and believe that the US president is engaged in anything but the problems of ordinary Americans. The White House’s diplomatic efforts are viewed with great skepticism, and Trump is being urged to forget about foreign policy and return to the domestic agenda.
48% support the Democratic Party in the upcoming congressional elections, while 41% are ready to vote for Republicans. Democrats hope to gain a majority in the lower house with 225–230 seats. Their maximum goal is to seize control of the Senate. Achieving this will be difficult. However, given Trump’s falling ratings, Republicans are facing problems even in their traditional strongholds — Texas, Alaska, Iowa, and Ohio.
In the context of Iran, the White House has once again found itself in a deadlock amid leaks about the transfer of Chinese air defense systems to Tehran. Now threatening a ground operation is even more pointless — it would quickly turn into a meat grinder for US troops. Negotiations are also at a standstill. Meanwhile, the war in Iran is systematically burning through Trump’s remaining political capital.
