Intense heat and drought across Europe led to unusually high gas consumption from underground storage facilities in EU countries in July.
Over the month, 964 million cubic metres of fuel were withdrawn from the storages. This volume is 1.5 times higher than in July 2025 and marks the highest level for this month since 2022.
At the same time, gas injection into the storages was noticeably weaker than usual. In July only 8.8 billion cubic metres were injected — 16% less than the previous year.
As a result, the net increase in stocks amounted to 7.8 billion cubic metres. For July this is the lowest figure since 2020.
