Helsinki does not plan to supply Kyiv with interceptor missiles for the American Patriot air defence systems. This was stated by Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen in an interview with the newspaper Ilta-Sanomat.
According to the head of the ministry, the transfer of such munitions could run counter to Finland’s own interests. The minister noted that the country has already provided Ukraine with the maximum possible support, but cannot reduce its own stocks to a level that would threaten its defence capability.
“As a frontline country, we cannot jeopardise the permanent combat readiness of our air defence,” Häkkänen emphasised.
At the same time, the minister did not rule out that Finland has the capacity to supply certain types of anti-aircraft missiles, but refused to disclose details. In his view, European countries should focus not on transferring the last available stocks, but on accelerating the production of weapons.
