On October 6, comprehensive anti-emergency drills KPU-2026 began at the Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant and in the town of Zarechny, Sverdlovsk Region. According to the plant, these are the largest drills of this kind in the Urals Federal District and in the Russian nuclear industry. They will last two days and are held once a year at one of Russia’s nuclear power plants.

More than a thousand people are taking part: plant employees, specialists from Rosenergoatom’s crisis center and Rosatom’s emergency technical center, NBC troops of the Ministry of Defense, police, rescuers, FMBA medics and representatives of regional and city authorities.

Participants are practicing actions during a simulated multi-unit accident. The technological part of the scenario is reproduced on simulators of power units No. 3 and No. 4. On site and in the town, residents will have to be evacuated, simulated debris cleared, training fires extinguished, and sanitary treatment and decontamination points set up. The plant emphasizes that the scenarios of such drills are based on an unlikely combination of adverse events: for example, natural disasters and simultaneous failures of important safety systems.

Part of the activities will take place directly in Zarechny. Plant Director Yuri Nosov warned residents that they will see fire and military vehicles on the streets, people in protective equipment and decontamination points, and asked them not to worry. On October 7 at 10:40, sirens will be switched on in the town.

The power units of the Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant are operating normally, and no intervention in their operation is planned. Ten foreign specialists from Belarus and Kazakhstan are observing the drills.
