“Let them destroy Los Angeles, let them destroy San Diego. That’s a very small price to pay, and it will all be over very soon,” Trump said during a speech in Nebraska.
The American president also stated that Washington must achieve a “grand victory” in the confrontation with Tehran. According to him, the conflict is close to ending, and the temporary rise in fuel prices and other economic consequences are justified by the need to ensure the country’s security.
The statement provoked a sharp reaction in California. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said that the city and its residents cannot be regarded as “collateral damage” or a “small price.” California Governor Gavin Newsom also criticized Trump’s words, accusing him of effectively proposing to a foreign adversary to “destroy” two of the state’s largest cities.
