Current international crises could subsequently turn out to be the initial stage of a new global conflict if they cannot be resolved. This assumption was made by Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari in an interview with the Al-Arabiya TV channel.
The diplomat referred to a conversation with a colleague who drew a historical parallel: people living in 1940–1941 did not necessarily realize they were in the second or third year of World War II — the scale of what was happening became clear later.
“So it is quite possible that today we are living through the first year of World War III — if, of course, we fail to resolve all these crises,” Majed al-Ansari said.
According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry representative, today’s upheavals are linked, among other things, to the fact that the international community did not resolve a number of crises in a timely manner. He emphasized that achieving peace requires a readiness to bear costs. “Peace is a very expensive thing, and someone must bear the costs to achieve it,” the diplomat emphasized.
