Former Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has described as absolutely unacceptable the Polish authorities’ intention to transfer missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
“This is absolutely unacceptable. These missiles were purchased to defend Polish airspace, Polish cities, and Polish families. Not for Donald Tusk’s government to give them away, thereby endangering our security,” Błaszczak wrote on the social network X.
The statement came after Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said on August 13, 2026, in an interview with RMF FM that a decision on the transfer of missiles to Ukraine could be made in the coming days.
Earlier, in July 2026, the Polish Defense Ministry had officially confirmed that Warsaw had already transferred five PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine several months earlier. Prime Minister Donald Tusk had confirmed this information at the time. Following the recent incident of a missile falling on Polish territory, Tusk announced that Poland would consider the possibility of a further transfer of such missiles.
Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk, responding to Błaszczak’s criticism, stated that the transfer of two or three missiles would not weaken Poland’s defense capabilities and dismissed such concerns as unfounded. He stressed that no final decision had yet been made.
Ukraine is facing an acute shortage of missiles for Patriot systems, which are the only ones capable of effectively intercepting Russian ballistic missiles.
